The Semá7maka Canoe Family was established in 2019 - the same year we attended our first canoe journey in the traditional territories of the Tla’amin peoples located in what is now known as Powell River.
Since then we have cared for our Canoe, and gone out paddling regularly through the warmer months. This includes regular outings, as well as participating in the Pulling Together Canoe Journeys.
The Semá7maka Canoe Family learns together and participates in cultural restoration activities, such as:
Sleeping and Awakening Ceremonies for our canoe Semá7maka
Learning cultural teachings
Singing, drumming and dancing
Beading, sewing, weaving, and making other traditional arts and crafts together
